Collection, storage and transportation of virus samples in human saliva.
Description
The virus sampling kit is based on Hank’s balanced salt solution. The solution contains inorganic salts, amino acids protein-stable ingredients. The VTM has a stable osmotic pressure which provides a appropriate transport and storage environment for swab samples. Specimens collected with saliva collector are sent to the laboratory for follow-up testing to determine whether been infected with some kinds of viruses.

Specimen Collection Procedures
1. Do not eat, drink or smoke within half an hour before sampling.
2. Before sampling, mark the relevant sample information on the label of the sampling tube.
3. Place the sampling tube vertically so that the sampling fluid can flows to the bottom of the tube. Grab the tube cover and swing the tube vigorously twice to make the remaining fluid on the cover flow to the bottom of the tube. Then place the sampling tube upright on the flat desktop for use.
4. Open the outer packing of the saliva collector. Screw off the cover of the sampling tube counterclockwise and place the cover face up on the desktop. Take out the saliva collector and insert the intubation into the sampling tube.
5. Hold the sample tube vertically in front of the patient, aim the mouth at the saliva collector, spit about 1 ml of saliva slowly into the saliva collector.
6. Hold the sample tube vertically, remove the saliva collector from the sample tube, put it back into the package and seal it.
7. Put the cap back on the sample tube and tighten it. Justify the threads of the sampling tube and the cap, then screw the cap clockwise for 2-3 turns. Stop screwing until you can’t twist it. Ensure that the tube cover and tube body fit neatly.
8. Shake the sampling tube upside down to get the collected saliva sample and the sampling solution fully mixed.
9. Put the sample tube into a biosafety bag. Freshly collected clinical specimens can be delivered to the laboratory for later nucleic acid extraction and detection within 48 hours at room temperature. We recommend to store the sample in the -80℃ if it couldn’t be detected within 48 hours.
Qualification of Specimen
Samples collected with saliva collector should be transported at 2~8°C and submitted for inspection immediately. After sampling, transport and storage time for specimen should be no longer than 48 hours, it should be stored at -80℃ if couldn’t be tested in 48 hours.

Sample Deterioration
If the collected sampling solution turns slightly yellow within a few hours after collection, the result of nucleic acid test will not be affected. But it may affect the preservation of samples.
Limitations
1. Serious contamination of sample due to improper operation will affect the final results.
2. Storing samples at inappropriate temperature will affect the final results.
